Prof Adnan Khattak works as a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Hollywood Private Hospital. He did his initial specialist training at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre (Adelaide) before going to work as a Clinical Research Fellow at the Royal Marsden NHS Trust in London. He completed his Fellowship in Medical Oncology in December 2012 through The Royal Australasian College of Physicians and started working as a consultant at Royal Perth Hospital in 2013 before transitioning to Fiona Stanley Hospital.

 

He was awarded his PhD in Apr 2023 through the School of Medical and Health Sciences at Edith Cowan University (Western Australia). The title of his PhD thesis was "Blood based biomarkers of response to immunotherapy in advanced melanoma"

 

His research interests are Lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, melanoma and Cancer Immunotherapy. He has extensive experience with personalised cancer vaccines and tumour Infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy in lung cancer and melanoma. He led the Cancer Clinical Trials Unit at Fiona Stanley Hospital between 2016-2023 and has been the Primary Investigator of many phase 1, 2 & 3 International clinical trials. He is also leading several clinical trials at One Clinical Research (Hollywood Private Hospital) including First In Human (FIH) studies of bispecific antibodies, ADCs and T cell engagers.

 

He has over 125 publications and published in high impact factor journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Nature Medicine, JAMA Oncology and European Journal of Cancer. He has also been involved in the development of 2017 National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC) guidelines for the management of advanced colorectal cancer and protocols for State-wide Immunotherapy related adverse events management.

 

He is the recipient of a number of Research awards including Cancer Council WA Suzanne Cavanagh Young Investigator Award, Raine Foundation Clinician Research Fellowship, Spinnaker Health Research Foundation Collaborative research grant, NHMRC Developmental grant, Royal Perth Hospital Medical Research Foundation Award and MSD Global Investigator grant. He is the Chief Investigator/Associate Investigator of research grants in excess of $3.5million.

 

He has presented his research at many international meetings including the US, Canada, Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific.
