About Professor Bruce Robinson

Professor Bruce Robinson is a Professor of Medicine and a Specialist Respiratory physician and scientist. He is internationally recognised for his leading research into cancer immunology and asbestos related cancer over nearly four decades.

 

Current Appointments

• Consultant Physician, Respiratory medicine, Sir Charles Gardner Hospital
• Research Scientist, Tumour Immunology Group, University of Western Australia. Regularly speaking at major international meetings & has made numerous media appearances relating to science
• Lectures, seminars and clinical teaching to 3rd-6th year medical students
• Co-founder and Past Director of the National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases, Chairs the State Health Research Advisory Council
• Co-founder and director of the International Skills and Training Institute in Health, a philanthropic organization which provides services and training in disaster situations within the Asian region

 

Teaching Overview

35 years experience in teaching medical students, including new programs in communication skills [‘how to break bad news to patients’] and in medical research through lecturing, seminars and clinical teaching. He has also initiated teaching weekends and medical teacher development days. Winner of 3 UWA Medical School Teacher-of-the-Year awards.

 

Research

Co-leader of a large research team studying cancer immunology and asbestos diseases. The team have made many discoveries, including the first blood test for mesothelioma and have conducted many world-first treatments, including Australia’s first cancer gene therapy trial.
