About

Professor James Scott is a Child and Youth Psychiatrist and the Director of Ramsay Health Youth Service at New Farm. He is The Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at The University of Queensland. He has  expertise in providing care to children and young people with anxiety, ADHD, psychosis and mood disorders. His clinical practice incorporates a biopsychosocial model with intensive family involvement.     

James is also a clinician researcher. He is an author on over 400 peer reviewed publications. In 2018, he was awarded the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists’ Senior Research Award, conferred on the ‘Fellow who has made the most significant contribution to psychiatric research in Australia and New Zealand over the preceding five years.

Ramsay Health Youth Service at New Farm was developed by James and commenced in November 2022. This was the first  private inpatient unit I Queensland for adolescents from 14 years.  

The service provides a group based programme for young people to learn skills with their peers to better cope with their mental health problems. The service is open to adolescents and young adults seeking voluntary admissions who are willing to participate in the programme of group and individual therapy, physical activity and family support. The programme is ideal for those who are seeking more intensive treatment than can be provided in outpatient appointments.
