MARGARET
MASON
Margaret Mason has
recently been appointed
as the Director of Clinical
Services at Wollongong
Private Hospital.
Margaret joined Figtree Private Hospital as
the Infection Prevention & Quality Manager
and was an instrumental member of the
commissioning team, closely involved in
the successful transition from Figtree to
Wollongong Private Hospital.
She has been integral in achieving and
maintaining hospital accreditation at
Wollongong Private, and over the last two
years has also added Risk Management and
Education to her portfolio.
Prior to working at Figtree Private Hospital,
Margaret worked at St George Private
Hospital and the Sydney Adventist Hospital.
Margaret has a Master of Nursing (Education)
and is currently enrolled in Master of Health
Management through Monash University.
MEDALS FOR WA NURSES
Joondalup Health Campus nurse Julie Riches was
one of eight nurses recently awarded the Western
Australian Nurses Medal for diligent and ethical
service as well as commitment and service to
the community.
The registered nurse, who has served the
hospital and community for nearly 30 years, was
presented with the medal by Member for the North
Metropolitan Region Martin Pritchard MLC.
Julie said she loved nursing, the versatility it
offered, and “that there are never two days that
are the same!”
Having completed hospital-based training at the
famous Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in the

SHARON
REWITT
Sharon Rewitt has been
appointed to the position
of CEO at Warners Bay
Private commencing 14
January 2019.
This will be a 6 month secondment ending 30
June 2019, pending a review of the services
to determine the optimal structure for the
organisation in the greater Newcastle region.
Sharon commenced with Ramsay Health
Care in May 2017 as the Regional Commercial
Manager of Northside Group. Prior to this
Sharon was the Commercial Manager
NSW for the Healthe Care Group with
responsibilities for four Healthe Care facilities
in the Gosford and Newcastle region. She is a
resident of Newcastle and knows the hospital
and area extremely well.
Sharon also has an Honours Degree in
Commercial Science and a Chartered
Accountant.
GEORGE
DIAKOS
George Diakos has
been appointed to the
position of CEO for
Figtree Private Hospital
and Lawrence Hargrave
Private Hospital which will come into effect
in 2019.
George is currently the NSW Human
Resource Manager and has been with
Ramsay since June 2016. In recent months
he has worked two days per week in a
leadership role at Figtree Private, developing
good relationships with all staff and doctors
during this time.
He has completed an undergraduate
Bachelor of Arts majoring in Communication
Studies and a postgraduate Master of
Strategic Human Resource Management –
both from the University of Wollongong.
MICHELLE
MCDONNELL
Michelle McDonnell will
assume the Director of
Clinical Services role
from 1 January 2019
across both Figtree
Private Hospital and Lawrence Hargrave
Private Hospital.
Michelle has greatly assisted at Lawrence
Hargrave Private Hospital over the past
18 months on restructuring this important
business.
UK as a 19 year old, the new grandmother-of-one
has worked across many areas of nursing in her
40 year career. Emigrating to WA in 1989, she first
worked at Princess Margaret Hospital, and then
joined Joondalup Health Campus in the days when
it was still known as Wanneroo Hospital.
Today she splits her time between Ramsay Health
Care sites, doing shifts as the After Hours Manager
for Glengarry Private Hospital and also working
in the After Hours GP Clinic at Joondalup
Health Campus.
Deputy CEO of Joondalup Health Campus, Dr
Amanda Ling, described Julie as a bubbly and
positive nurse who puts her all into the job.
PENINSULA'S AROUND THE
BAY RIDE
Nineteen members of the Peninsula Private Cardiac Rehab team have participated in the
100km “Around the Bay in a Day” bike ride for the third consecutive year.
The aim of the event is to promote life after a cardiac event. The Peninsula Private Cardiac
Rehab team consisted of doctors, nurses, patients who had been through the cardiac
rehabilitation program and their supporters.
“From AMI and AF Ablation to cardiac stents and cardiac surgery, this amazing group
of people are an inspiration to anyone who has had a life threatening cardiac event,”
Peninsula Private Hospital CEO Michelle Henderson said.
One of the team members who took part had suffered a cardiac arrest while on a
mountain bike trail in December 2016. He survived thanks to the skill of his riding mates
who performed CPR. These two ‘angels’ rode shoulder-to-shoulder with him in this year’s
“Around the Bay in a Day” event.
“It was awe-inspiring to see the Peninsula Private Hospital blue and black kit of 19 riders
streaming down the road as we passed the sea of pink and blue jerseys everyone else
was wearing,” Cardiac Rehabilitation Coordinator Jonathan Boothroyd said.
“We’re really proud of Julie, she’s a great member
of our team and a fantastic example of the
difference a nurse can make to a community,”
Dr Ling said.
“As a nurse working in the after-hours GP clinic,
she sees all sorts of injuries and illness and I
personally see her providing compassionate and
kind care to the many people who come to us
seeking help.”
The other seven nurses from Joondalup Health
Campus who received awards were Cheryle
Barley, Lesley Freestone, Jacqueline Giglia, Hilary
Mcloughlin, Michelle Mitchell, Deena Pearson and
Colleen Brazier.
WESTMEAD SUPPORTS
THE COMMUNITY
Westmead Private Hospital has recently raised funds for both breast cancer
research and brain tumour support.
A sausage sizzle provided much needed funds for NOgIN – a brain tumour support
group for both Westmead Hospital and Westmead Private Hospital patients.
This not-for-profit organisation is dedicated to reducing the physical and emotional
impact associated with the diagnosis and ongoing treatment of patients with
a brain tumour. It aims to improve outcomes for patients and their families living
in western Sydney.
A morning tea was also held for Breast Cancer Network Australia which assisted
them in reaching their goal of $1.5 million.
It also allowed the hospital to raise awareness of prevention, detection and
treatment of breast cancer.
