When asked about his professional ambitions, Figtree Private Hospital’s Director of Clinical Services, Simon McDermott, says he hopes to provide his employees the same support, guidance, and opportunities that he has been shown during his career at Ramsay.

Simon first joined Ramsay’s Figtree Private Hospital when he arrived in Australia from Ireland in 2015, where he worked in the Intensive Care Unit, Post Anaesthesia Care Unit and as Afterhours Manager.

Following a five-year hiatus, working at Wollongong Private Hospital as Operational Manager, he returned to Figtree as the Director of Clinical Services (DCS).

Simon joined the Nursing Leader of Tomorrow Program to become the best version of a leader he could become.

“I found it extremely useful. It has allowed me to draw on the skills and knowledge I had gained previously and reflect and focus on ways to enhance and build on these skills so that I can continue to develop and grow as a leader,” Simon said.

“It was a learning environment that provided a safe space to talk, to be open and frank and to network so that when you did get a job like the position I now hold, you had people who you could instantly reach out to for guidance if required,” he said.

“I believe in the ethos of people caring for people, not only our patients and customers but also our people and Ramsay has this at its core – this is evident in my own journey moving from working on floor as an RN to where I am today as a DCS.”
