Caring for our community

Our responsibility in the community stretches beyond connecting patients to skilled practitioners. We realise that we have an important role to play in our local communities and in serving society at large.

We are focused on:

  • Advancing health outcomes through medical research, clinical teaching and training
  • A global approach to preventative health care
  • Supporting local communities
  • Responsible sourcing and ethical supply chains

Rotary Medical Equipment Donation Program

Ramsay Health Care has partnered with Rotary to establish an efficient and effective program of distributing medical equipment and goods to disadvantaged communities in Australia and overseas.

The agreement came out of Ramsay’s and Rotary’s joint desire to establish a mechanism for the responsible and ethical donation and reuse of hospital and medical equipment and supplies which are no longer required by Ramsay facilities.

Ramsay Health Care also provides $10,000 per year in financial contributions towards the costs of delivery.

In 2021, Berrima District Rotary’s Medical Aid for Oceania and Worldwide (MAFO) project continued its core business of shipping suitable items to developing countries. Ramsay Health Care donated equipment and supplies including 70 ECG machines, 58 beds, 720 robes and hundreds of leftover clinical trial supplies including drug screening tubes, blue slides for blood smears, sterile droppers and specimen bags. ECG machines were sent to Afghanistan, the Soloman Islands, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Alice Springs and Galiwinku in the Northern Territory. Beds were sent to The Philippines, Timor Leste, Sri Lanka and Lebanon.

Charity Challenge Program

Ramsay Health Care’s Charity Challenge Program allows employees to participate in initiatives that raise money for charity. Ramsay will contribute up to 20% of the funds the employees raise towards their charity of choice (applies to Australian employees only). Many employees of Ramsay already participate in giving something back to the community through challenging fundraising activities and this is a way that Ramsay Health Care can assist staff with accomplishing their goals in the most fair and equitable way.

Ramsay Health Care Triathlon Pink

Ramsay Health Care is a major event partner and naming rights sponsor of the National Triathlon Pink series and has been a partner with this event since its inception in 2007. The Ramsay Health Care Triathlon Pink series event charity is the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

With women making up the largest proportion of Ramsay Health Care staff and as many Ramsay hospitals have a focus on women’s health, sponsoring the Triathlon Pink series is seen as a perfect fit for the organisation.

Since its inception in 2007, the Ramsay Health Care Triathlon Pink has raised more than $2.1 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and more than 60,000 competitors have become “Pinkies”.

RUOK? Day

Since its inception in 2011, RUOK? Day has become a well-known Australian national day of action which aims to prevent suicide by encouraging Australians to connect with someone they care about and help stop little problems turning into big ones.

On that day everyone across the country, from all backgrounds and walks of life, is encouraged to ask family, friends and colleagues: "Are you okay?"

Ramsay Health Care is a major supporter of RUOK? Day in Australia. We contribute to the fundraising efforts of RUOK? Day by providing lunch to employees for a gold coin donation, and then match these donations at a corporate level.

Paul Ramsay Foundation

Ramsay Health Care is pleased to be associated with the Paul Ramsay Foundation. The Paul Ramsay Foundation, formed after the passing of Ramsay Health Care founder, Paul Ramsay in 2014, is the largest shareholder of Ramsay Health Care. The bulk of Mr Ramsay’s estate will be left to the Paul Ramsay Foundation and will be of enduring benefit to the Australian community. It is intended that the Foundation will remain a significant long term shareholder of Ramsay Health Care.
