My name is Kirsty Ferris and I have worked at Southern Highlands Private for nearly 12 years.

Describe your job without using a position title?

Multitasker extraordinaire, which involves caring for people in a multitude of medical/surgical specialities in a post-operative setting to discharge. Educating, encouraging and supporting my colleagues to meet their own professional development and goals to deliver quality care.

What motivates you and why?

My motivation is to provide quality healthcare by continuously challenging myself to further enhance my knowledge and clinical skills. I have been fortunate to work alongside inspirational nurse colleagues who also support and motivate me to reach my goals.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

To have a ‘sense of direction’, I can literally get lost anywhere.

What does the Year of Health and Care Workers mean to you?

Pride and respect to all healthcare workers who have risen to the challenges over the past 2 years and adapted to the ever-changing needs of the community whilst continuing to deliver health care. Acknowledgement for the hard work, dedication and commitment it has taken to keep our communities safe.

What would you say to inspire future generations of workers in health care?

You will develop your knowledge, skills and delivery of care throughout your career, but remember the little things still count. Do not underestimate the nurse patient relationship and the impact you will have on their health care journey.
