My name is Kylie and I’ve worked at St George Private Hospital for 4 years and 3 months.

Describe your job without using a position title?

I have a dual role here at St George Private. One of the roles is a first here. If I could sum up the two roles I would say this :- “ When you are a leader, you are privileged to be in a position where you can direct, shape, and focus people’s potential to a specific result. When you are given the responsibility to lead, you are given an awesome opportunity to influence many people’s lives positively; a responsibility you should never take for granted. Humble leadership doesn’t mean you think less of yourself. It means you think about yourself less and you think of your team more”.

What motivates you and why?

Motivation for me is about meeting and exceeding the expectations of patients, visitors, and fellow team members of clinical and non-clinical. Creating a workplace where people enjoy coming to work, given we spend 70% of our life at work.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

Attempting my 3rd DAN Shotokan Black belt Karate grading. This would involve a lot of learning and me getting into shape! Workwise I am currently in studies doing Cert IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Primary Health Care.

What does the Year of Health and Care Workers mean to you?

Year of the Health and Care workers gives us an opportunity to highlight the hard work of all clinical and non-clinical team members from the grass roots and up. A celebration of Ramsay Health Care hospitals working towards a common goal.

What would you say to inspire future generations of workers in health care?

What I would say to future generations of workers in health care is whatever job you choose whether it be a clinical or non-clinical role it will be a most rewarding and enjoyable career. Especially working for Ramsay Health Care where the people are friendly and become an extension of family. Adapt and grow with the changes and challenges you may find, but most of all keep a sense of humour.
