My name is Noeline Butler and I’ve worked at Armidale Private Hospital for 6 years and 2 months.

Describe your job without using a position title?

I'm fortunate to have a dual role at Armidale Private. Cleaning and patient care. My roles combined enable me to provide a safe environment, care and support to patients and a supportive role to nursing staff.

What motivates you and why?

Simply. My heart for people and the ability, through my work, to meet their needs and provide support, when they need it the most. No matter what role I undertake, I can show empathy, kindness and compassion. I love where I work. I work with a wonderful team, who are extremely supportive and encouraging and this provides an environment that motivates me to always do my best. It's a privilege to provide care to patients, their families and support to the nursing team. I am always willing to learn more, particularly in patient care, and this motivates me.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I am very interested in understanding the mind and what triggers individual actions. I am always interested and learning from topics regarding the science of human behaviour and feelings.

What does the Year of Health and Care Workers mean to you?

It's encouraging to be recognised. It's an opportunity to acknowledge healthcare workers, their dedication and acknowledgement of the many roles that make up health care. It shows how important and appreciated we all are, regardless of our roles. It recognises our contributions and how it all works together to provide much needed continued care.

What would you say to inspire future generations of workers in health care?

I would say health care gives the opportunity to make a difference. Through respect, understanding and patience, you can make that difference. It's rewarding and challenging at the same time. Each and every role is valuable. A career in healthcare is extremely fulfilling.
