Dr Thomson is a Gatroenterologist with specific interests in endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy), general gastroenterology and hepatology; colorectal cancer screening, polypectomy (including Endoscopic Mucosal Resection), positive FOBT tests (including National Bowel Cancer Screening Program), iron deficiency, change in bowel symptoms, screening of family members, dysphagia, reflux, chronic radiation proctitis, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis) and irritable bowel syndrome.
Dr Thomson is recognised and accredited for gastroscopy and colonoscopy by The Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE), a national body comprising representatives from the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA), the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). Dr Thomson also participates in ongoing quality assurance, including the new national recertification system with GESA for colonoscopy and continuous professional development well in excess of the requirements of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Dr Thomson undertook basic physician training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH), then further specialist gastroenterology and hepatology training at Liverpool, Nepean, Blacktown and Westmead Hospitals. Dr Thomson was previously a Clinical Associate Lecturer in Medicine with The University of Sydney (RPAH), and is a supervisor of gastroenterology advanced trainees with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Dr Thomson is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and full member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA), American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and Australian Medical Association (AMA).
