Dr Sarah Murgatroyd is an Australasian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon who offers care for children’s orthopaedic conditions, as well as hand, wrist, shoulder and elbow injuries and degenerative conditions. She will guide you through non operative measures and surgical treatment for both children and adults.

Dr Murgatroyd was raised in the United Kingdom graduating from the University of London in 2004. She undertook her early medical career in the UK before moving to New Zealand where she completed Orthopaedic training; obtaining her specialist qualification with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2015.

Dr Murgatroyd completed post fellowship subspecialty training in Upper Limb Surgery at Macquarie University in Sydney and at Princess Alexandra in Brisbane in 2016. She returned to the UK to complete a year of subspecialty training in paediatric orthopaedics at the world renowned Southampton Children’s Hospital in 2017, staying on further as a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon through 2018. In 2019 she returned to Brisbane with her family to commence a public appointment at Redcliffe Hospital.

Having worked in several high volume level 1 trauma centres for children and adults around the world, Dr Murgatroyd can provide assessment and treatment for adults and children who have sustained injuries at sport, at home or at work. Dr Murgatroyd has a particular interest in upper limb problems of children including those sustained as a result of injury after fracture, cerebral palsy and congenital differences. She can treat general paediatric conditions of both the upper and lower limbs in children including walking problems, hip, knee, foot and ankle issues. These conditions include hip dysplasia, clubfoot, cerebral palsy, perthes, leg alignment and walking issues. 

Specialty procedures of the upper limb performed by Dr Murgatroyd include elbow and wrist arthroscopy, shoulder replacement, elbow replacement, wrist and small joints of the hand replacement, elbow stabilisations, tendon transfers, nerve decompressions and fracture treatment.

She is a member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, Corresponding member of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association, and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS Ortho). She has an active role in the teaching and training of medical students, junior doctors and training registrars through the University of Queensland and the Australian Orthopaedic Association.
