Dr Carnelio worked for the NHS hospitals in the United Kingdom for six years, completing her MRCP in 2006 after gaining experience in various subspecialties of Internal Medicine. She was admitted into fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2013 having completed her training in Endocrinology and Internal Medicine at major teaching hospitals in and around Brisbane (GPH, PAH, Mater, Gold Coast and Logan Hospitals). Further training in Obstetric Medicine was completed at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane.

Dr Carnelio manages general endocrine conditions and obesity. She has interests in management of type 1 diabetes, including insulin pump therapy and managing endocrine disorders in pregnancy. She has accreditation at the Mater Hospital in Endocrinology and Obstetric Medicine.

Greenslopes Private Hospital is her primary place of practice where she also participates in the Endocrinology on-call roster. Dr Carnelio now looks after Dr Elisabeth Nye's patients after she moved interstate.
