Dr Mark Dekkers is committed to taking time to accurately assess each patient’s individual problems to devise a management plan that includes both non-operative and operative treatment options.

Dr Dekkers’ interests cover the range of knee surgery including arthroscopic anterior and posterior ligament reconstruction for the unstable knee, meniscal surgery (including meniscal root tears as well as bucket handle tears), and reconstruction for footballers’ cartilage, articular cartilage repair and chondrocyte transplantation for joint surface damage, through to osteotomy and joint replacements for the arthritic hip and knee.

He has completed specialist training in knee surgery with fellowships in the UK and Europe. He has undergone a post graduate fellowship in knee surgery, and advanced training in sports knee surgery and cartilage implantation. He has also completed a trauma fellowship in Italy.

Dr Dekkers uses Computer Navigation Technology for total knee replacement surgery which allows him to accurately measure and correct the deformity of an arthritic knee, leading to faster rehabilitation, less pain and faster post-operative recovery.

He operates an Acute Knee Clinic for the timely treatment of knee trauma and injuries, especially on a Monday morning. His staff are trained to triage and prioritise acute injuries to ensure they are seen in an appropriate timeframe. Dr Dekkers believes it is essential to see acute sporting injuries early so he also offers appointments during the week to accommodate issues that may arise.

Dr Dekkers also uses a new technique for ACL reconstruction involving using one hamstring tendon instead of the traditional two tendon method, allowing a more rapid rehabilitation and earlier return to normal activity.
