Dr Prajwol Shrestha is a dedicated medical oncologist who practices at the Calvary Mater Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Private Hospitals. He is committed to patient-centered care, and open communication, which forms the foundation of his practice.
He graduated from Manipal College of Medical Sciences before moving to Australia for further training. He undertook initial medical training at Liverpool, Gosford, and Nepean Hospitals before completing his basic physician training in 2018. Dr. Shrestha completed his medical oncology training from Calvary Mater Newcastle, and Central Coast Cancer Centre, before undertaking a fellowship in early-phase clinical trials at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse (Sydney), including specialised cancer clinics in breast, gastrointestinal, skin and head and neck cancers. Prior to relocating to Newcastle, he practised in various locations in Queensland and South Australia.
Dr. Shrestha prioritises a compassionate and personalized approach to patient care, drawing inspiration from his previous volunteer work. He firmly believes in tailoring treatment to the requirements and preferences of each patient, to enhance both survival and quality of life.
Beyond his clinical commitment, Dr Shrestha is also actively engaged in multiple clinical trials as a principal investigator and sub-investigator. He has a special interest in biomarker-driven trials and has undertaken studies in liquid biopsy biomarkers (blood sample) under the direction of Prof John Rasko and Dr Dannel Yeo at the Rasko Lab (The Centenary Institute, Royal Prince Alfred). He is a member of several oncology groups including ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology), ESMO (European Society of Medical Oncology), and Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA). Dr Shrestha has published multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented in both national and international forums.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr Shrestha is involved with philanthropic initiatives like Global Oncology program (ASCO Health Volunteers). He is passionate about the environment, values family time, and enjoys both playing and listening to music.
