Assoc Prof Hodge worked as a molecular biologist in Canada before he commenced medicine at The University of Sydney. He graduated with honours, then completed his gastroenterology specialist training between Canberra and Melbourne at The Alfred Hospital. As a junior doctor, he was foundationally involved in the seminal paper demonstrating the association between adiponectin levels and inflammation severity in fatty liver disease. Since that time in 2004, he has been steadily involved in clinical and basic science research. In 2015 he completed a PhD at Monash University investigating the use of human amniotic epithelial cells as treatment of liver fibrosis and a clinical trial utilizing fasting as a management strategy for fatty liver disease (now called MASLD).
Assoc Prof Hodge has an Honorary Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of The Department of Health and Biomedical Sciences at RMIT University and Honorary Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of The Faculty of Medicine at Monash University.
Assoc Prof Hodge is seeing patients at Parkside Specialists for all gastroenterology and liver needs. He performs FibroScan® examinations of the liver during consultations (non-invasive tool to determine liver fibrosis / scarring). Endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) is available in the local area.
