Mr Nick Furness is a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon with interests in all aspects of upper limb and fracture surgery. Mr Furness undertook his medical training at Imperial College London where he was also awarded a degree in Healthcare Management. He completed his orthopaedic training in the UK, qualifying as a Consultant in 2017. Alongside his training, Mr Furness was awarded a Master’s degree in Trauma Surgery (passing with distinction) and a prestigious BOA Travelling Fellowship Award that enabled him to further his experience in complex upper limb trauma surgery at the Alfred Hospital. Following qualification, Mr Furness completed his sub-specialty fellowship training at worldrenowned hospitals in Exeter (UK), Auckland (NZ) and most recently at the Alfred Hospital where he gained extensive experience looking after some of the most severely injured patients in Australia. Mr Furness has an active interest in research and surgical education, frequently attending and presenting his work at meetings and publishing scientific papers in highly regarded journals. He reviews submitted papers for the medical journal Shoulder & Elbow and is passionate about training the next generation of surgeons in the public hospitals where he works. Mr Furness is a Fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is an active member of the British Elbow & Shoulder Society and the Victorian Shoulder & Elbow Society. Having trained in the NHS, Mr Furness is a passionate supporter of the public healthcare system and believes strongly in providing outstanding care to all those who need it. He consults and operates at Sandringham, Frankston and Bendigo Public Hospitals and runs regular clinics for public patients at his private rooms in Sandringham and Frankston. Mr Furness lives with his wife Claire and their three young boys in Bayside, Melbourne. When not working, he enjoys cycling, watching sport (cricket, rugby and more recently AFL!) and going on trips with his family in their campervan to one of the many beautiful areas in regional Victoria and beyond.
