Dr Anita Jacombs is a General Surgeon with post-Fellowship training in advanced Hernia Surgery and Abdominal Wall Reconstruction, as well as the Endovenous treatment of Varicose Veins and Chronic Venous Insufficiency. Dr Jacombs graduated from the University of Sydney and has done all her surgical training in Australia through St Vincent’s Hospital and her post-Fellowship Hernia and Abdominal Wall Reconstruction training with A. Professor Nabeel Ibrahim at Macquarie University Hospital

As a Hernia Surgeon Dr Anita Jacombs specialises in all aspects of abdominal wall hernias and abdominal wall conditions including common hernia conditions such as inguinal/groin hernias, umbilical hernias and epigastric hernias, as well as more complex abdominal wall hernias such as incisional hernias, complex ventral hernias and flank hernias. She also treats rare hernias and other abdominal wall conditions such as femoral and other pelvic hernias, Spigelian hernias, lumbar hernias, groin pain, Athletica pubalgia (or Sports Hernia) and rectus diastasis that does not respond to physiotherapy. She has expertise in reconstruction of the abdominal wall as part of complex hernia repair.

Dr Anita Jacombs is an Academic Surgeon, having completed a PhD on the effects of Bacterial Biofilm Infection of Surgical Implants during her training. She has ongoing research interests in Surgical Implant infection and advances in the Pre-Operative Abdominal Wall Preparation with Botulinum toxin A for patients with large and complex ventral hernias to improve surgical outcomes. She has written extensively on these subjects and has presented the findings of these research projects at local, national and international conferences. She is actively involved with teaching of medical students and doctors-in-training and is a Senior Instructor on the RACS Emergency Management of Severe Trauma (EMST) skills course.
