Originally from the Tamworth region Dr Lewis began his medical career with a Science degree, majoring in Anatomy and Physiology at the University of Sydney and his Medical degree, MBBS, at the University of Queensland. From there he worked in the major hospitals of Brisbane and North Queensland completing his Surgical training.  He was awarded a Fellowship in General Surgery from the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2014 and is now operating at Tamara Private Hospital and Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital. 

David enjoys all aspects of General Surgery and has a special interest in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery of the abdomen for addressing conditions including bowel cancers, hernias and gallbladders.  Through his work with the local Breast Screen clinic David is involved with the diagnosis and surgical treatment of breast cancers. He also has an interest in reconstructive surgical treatment for advanced skin cancers.

Together with his wife and 4 children David has settled back into country life here in Tamworth and is committed to providing quality local surgical care at Tamara for the New England region.
