Waverley Private Hospital would like to introduce Dr Yi Chen Zhao an Otolaryngologist, Head and Neck surgeon. Yi completed his medical training at Monash University with first class honours and several awards. After completing basic surgical training, he obtained his PhD through the University of Melbourne with a focus on the use of simulation in ENT education and training. He completed his Otolaryngology Head and Neck training after various rotations through major Victorian metropolitan hospitals.
He has undertaken additional sub-specialist fellowship training in managing disease of the nose, paranasal sinus with Professor PJ Wormald, known as one of the world’s leaders in the field of rhinology. He spent additional time in the Ohio State University James Wexner Cancer Centre USA with Professor Ricardo Carrau for further additional endoscopic skull base surgery training.
Yi is currently the Head of Rhinology Services at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He works closely with ophthalmologists and other clinicians to manage complex sinus conditions. He is a consultant surgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Where he is an integral part of the anterior skull base team with neurosurgeons, which treat conditions such as pituitary tumours and CSF leaks. He is involved in several research projects as well as clinical trials in his area of expertise.
Yi is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, a member of the Australasian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, the Australian New Zealand Rhinological Society, and the Australasian Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery.
Yi presents and teaches at national and international meetings. He has published articles in several peer reviewed journals and book chapters. He is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne and is actively involved in the teaching and examinations of future ENT surgeons at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
