Alison Brand AM MD MMEd FRCS(C) FRANZCOG CGO treats women with gynaecological cancers. She is a certified Gynaecologic Oncologist, the Director of Gynaecological Oncology at Westmead Hospital and Associate Professor at the University of Sydney. She recently completed a Masters of Medical Education at Sydney University.
Professor Brand is immediate Past-Chair of the Australian and New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG) clinical trials group, the lead group for gynaecological cancer research in Australia and New Zealand. She is Chair -Elect for the Gynaecological Cancer Intergroup (GCIG), an umbrella organisation of 33 international trials groups. Professor Brand has held a number of advisory positions with national and international gynaecological cancer organisations and has been involved in the development of the national clinical practice guidelines on endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer and cervical cancer screening. Professor Brand is a recipient of several NHMRC and Cancer Australia grants for research into gynaecological cancer. In 2021, she was awarded Member, Order of Australian for "significant service to medicine, to gynaecology and to medical organisations."
Dr Brand is heavily committed to clinical trials and is involved in multiple research projects as well as peer reviewer for several oncology and general journals. Over the years Dr Brand has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international Gynaecologic Oncology meetings, and has helped organise many national gynaecological cancer scientific meetings.
Her area of interest is cancer of the following organs;
Professor Brand also treats precancerous conditions of these organs, such as cervical dysplasia and pelvic masses, as well as performing complex pelvic surgery. She performs both laparoscopic (keyhole) and open surgery, and has a special interest in familial cancer conditions such as BRCA and Lynch syndrome (HNPCC).
