Dr Lau is widely regarded as a leading Urologist in Australia particularly in the field of minimally invasive surgery including laparoscopic and robotic treatment for a variety of kidney and prostate conditions especially in the field of oncology. He pioneered the development of Laparoscopic Kidney Surgery in Australia performing the first Laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy in 1998 and subsequently Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy for localised renal cancer in 2002. More recently, with the advance of Robotic Surgery, he performed the first Partial Robotic Nephrectomy with Firefly in 2013.
He has been invited to demonstrate surgery and lectured in numerous conferences and workshops both in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. He has also been invited to author in surgical text books. His work in renal surgery has influenced the practice of many Urologists both in Australia and overseas.
Dr Lau graduated from Sydney University and completed his Urological training in Sydney. He was appointed Clinical Lecturer in Oxford Transplant Centre in 1995 and is a Senior Urologist at Westmead Hospital. He is now a Conjoint Professor of the School of Medicine at the Western Sydney University.
His other appointments include Westmead Private Hospital, Castle Hill Hospital and Macquarie University Hospital. In Urology his sub interest lies in the field of renal, adrenal and prostate (RAP) surgery including diagnostic and treatment of both benign and malignant conditions.
