Celebrating
Ramsay nurses &
midwives in 2020
Ramsay Health Care has kicked off a year-long
celebration of nurses and midwives with
a global campaign that spans 11 countries.
2020 has been named the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife by the World Health
Organisation (WHO).
To mark the occasion, Ramsay is profiling one nurse or midwife from a different part of the
world each week – for the entire year.
The campaign is designed to highlight the vital roles these men and women play in delivering
excellent health care services.
Through their profiles, these men and women will share some of their experiences,
motivations and future aspirations with their peers as well as the general community.
Nurses and midwives make up more than two-fifths of our workforce: 39% in France,
54% in Australia, 37% in Asia, 25% in the UK, and 32% in the Nordics.
Ramsay Australia CEO, Danny Sims, said: “It’s a great initiative which gives us the opportunity
to reflect on and celebrate the important contributions Ramsay nurses and midwives make
to our patients, and to the overall health of the global population.”
“I personally would like to voice my thanks for the great teamwork, care and commitment
displayed by our nurses and midwives as they go about their work each and every day,” he said.
The nurse and midwife profiles are being hosted on Ramsay Health Care’s global website;
they are also being shared on social media.
So far, the campaign has featured profiles of Ramsay nurses from Australia, the UK, France,
Sweden and Malaysia.
“Each person has a different tale to tell and I’m certainly finding it interesting learning more
about people from various parts of the Ramsay family,” Mr Sims said.
All are invited to support the Year of the Nurse and Midwife campaign by following Ramsay
on Facebook and sharing the weekly profiles.
In 2020, we will profile one Ramsay nurse or midwife from a different part of the world each week for the entire year:

What is your job title?
Clinical Nurse Specialist –
breast care nurse, stomal
therapist, wound care
nurse
At which Ramsay site do you work?
Greenslopes Private Hospital, Australia.
For how long have you worked at Ramsay?
17 years.
What is your favourite thing about being
a nurse?
Educating patients is a very empowering
aspect of my job – helping someone adjust
to such a huge body image change like the
formation of a stoma (a surgically created
hole in the abdomen which allows waste
to be collected).
What are you passionate about?
I love watching the huge transition of
patients in their levels of confidence.
What are your aspirations for the future?
Reach a 30-year milestone here at
Greenslopes Private Hospital – still loads
of goals to kick. Then retire from nursing
and work in a gift shop where I chat to
people about pretty dust collectors that
none of us need but look beautiful.

What is your job title?
Registered staff nurse –

(scrub nurse)
At which Ramsay site do you work?
Oaks Hospital in Colchester, Essex UK
For how long have you worked at Ramsay?
15 years! All at Oaks Hospital.
What is your favourite thing about being
a nurse?
Caring for people. I initially went into
nursing because I found the whole
profession intriguing. I wanted to learn
about the human body… but then found
that caring for people came out of it; that is
the best part.
What are you passionate about?
Respect for other people is the most
important thing. I would always say that I
would treat other people as I want to be
treated. Out of work, I am passionate about
my family; they are first and foremost!
What are your aspirations for the future?
With work, I love what I am doing now – I
wouldn’t want to change it. Out of work, I
would like to get married again, to the man
I am with now and am very happy with.
Widyasari –
Indonesia
What is your job title?
I am a senior midwife.
At which Ramsay site
do you work?
I`m in charge of the delivery room at RS
Premier Jatinegara.
For how long have you worked at Ramsay?
I’ve been with the hospital for 14 years.
What is your favourite thing about being
a nurse?
My favourite thing about the job is being
part of a woman’s pregnancy and childbirth
journey. It gives me great pleasure and
satisfaction to be part of something normal,
healthy and a ‘family affair’.
What are you passionate about?
I’m passionate about my job. Because as a
midwife I am trained to safeguard both the
mother and her baby.
What are your aspirations for the future?
Over the past few decades, the number
of patients who go into spontaneous
labor has decreased and the percentage
of inductions have increased. My hope is
there should be increased international
interest in promoting normal delivery.

a profession with a lot of variety on a daily
basis, and I like the fact that I will always be
able to learn new things because of that.
What are you passionate about?
Doing a good job and being a good
colleague and nurse. It's hard to beat the
feeling of how great teamwork leads to
saving the life of a very sick patient.
What are your aspirations for the future?
Together with my colleagues – develop
and improve the work we do at the critical
care team vehicle. I'm also looking forward
to growing even more in my role as an
ambulance nurse.
