$96 million funding boost for Joondalup Health Campus expansion

$1 million upgrade for Strathfield cardiac catheter laboratory
Strathfield Private Hospital now has access to the latest technology in treating a range of heart conditions, with a million-dollar upgrade to the hospital’s
cardiac catheter laboratory.
The existing lab is being replaced by a state-of-the-art Philips
Azurion 7M12, an image-guided therapy system which will save
time by allowing the interventional team to work together in the
exam room, without interrupting each other.
Strathfield Private Hospital CEO, Sally Cameron, said: “Strathfield
has a really long history in providing cardiac services and the
new lab will ensure we maintain our excellent reputation.”
The new technology will offer a full range of both mainstream
and complex cardiac interventions including diagnostic
procedures and treatment for conditions including heart disease
and cardiac arrhythmias.
“Staff have been well-trained in the new technology;
doctors and patients are now lined up and ready to use it,”
Mrs Cameron said.
The upgrade will complement the hospital’s cardiac team; many
of them have worked at the site for at least 10 years.
“They are all very dedicated to what they do and have an
excellent rapport with each other and the doctors as well which
is so important in looking after patients,” Mrs Cameron said.
More than 730 cases were performed through Strathfield’s
catheter laboratory in 2019.
The hospital has been providing cardiac services for 25 years.
The Minister visited Ward D0 to make the announcement
and said the McGowan Government was committing an
extra $96 million to the development of JHC, which
would include:
• 30 new mental health inpatient beds
• 12 additional Emergency Department patient bays
• An Urgent Care Clinic to treat drug and alcohol affected
ED patients
• 90 inpatient beds in a design to meet future demand
• 6 new critical care beds
• 362 new parking bays for members of the public and staff
• 2 new operating theatres, one of which is a cardiac
catheter laboratory
This brings the estimated total cost of the expansion project
to $256.7 million – including $158 million of Federal funding.
