Dr Tony Croft is a Queensland and Oxford trained gastroenterologist with a passion for providing world-class medical care to fellow Queenslanders. He is a general gastroenterologist and specialist inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) physician.
He is known for delivering timely, compassionate, and evidence-based medical care for his patients. Dr Croft’s engaging and honest approach to communication with patients, their families and referring healthcare providers ensures that his patients are fully informed during their treatment journey.
Tony completed a medical degree at the University of Queensland and subsequently trained in hospitals throughout southeast Queensland including Nambour Hospital in 2015-2016. He undertook an IBD Telehealth Fellowship at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in 2017, the same year he was awarded his Fellowship by the Australasian College of Physicians.
In 2018-2019 he completed a Senior Clinical Fellowship at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, UK. At this centre of excellence, he received additional training in general gastroenterology, hepatology and inflammatory bowel disease. This included training in image enhanced colonoscopy for colorectal cancer detection and involvement in the clinical trial programme.
Following this prestigious fellowship, he received training in intestinal ultrasound at the University Hospital Erlangen Medical Clinic in Germany. He continues to develop his skills in this patient-friendly technique at his public clinics.
Dr Croft has been engaged in gastrointestinal research since 2005. He was awarded a Master of Philosophy degree by University of Queensland in 2019 for a thesis exploring risk prediction of clinical outcomes in acute ulcerative colitis. He continues to be active in contributing to the medical literature, involved in key IBD clinical trials and in teaching the next generation of physicians through his academic appointment of Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland.
When not working, Tony and his family enjoy the lifestyle opportunities and close connection to nature offered by living on the Sunshine Coast.
