Dr Allan Davies is a cardiologist specialising in treating coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease.
Dr Davies spent eight years in Brisbane at the University of Queensland, completing undergraduate degrees in Commerce and Science, before postgraduate medical school and he graduated from medicine in 2009. After working in Brisbane and Townsville as a junior resident, he moved to Newcastle in 2012 and completed his physician training and specialty cardiology training in the Hunter New England Health Network. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2017. He then completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at John Hunter Hospital in 2017, before moving to London, UK in 2018 to undertake further training at The Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals. The Royal Brompton is a specialist valve centre and Allan was able to learn cutting edge techniques to treat valve disease with a percutaneous treatment called transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr) along with transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
Allan is an Honorary Senior Lecturer with the University of Newcastle and still collaborates with colleagues in Europe and the United Kingdom. He is a Board Reviewer of the European Heart Journal and is an Editorial Fellow for Heart, Lung and Circulation.
Dr Davies also works in the public sector and is appointed as a Staff Specialist Cardiologist at the John Hunter Hospital and has established the mitral valve program since returning from the UK. He also participates in their successful primary angioplasty program to treat patients with acute myocardial infarction. He is also the supervisor of the Rapid Access Clinic at John Hunter Hospital. Furthermore, he is available for consultations through Newcastle Heart.
