Dr Jodie-Kate Williams is a consultant general surgeon and has experience in trauma surgery with nearly 10 years of surgical experience working throughout NSW and the Northern Territory (NT) of Australia. Dr Williams grew up on the south coast of NSW and completed medical school at the University of Sydney. She undertook surgical training in Newcastle and obtained her Fellowship in General Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). She completed further training in Trauma and General Surgery as a Fellow at the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC) in Darwin, and also has several years’ experience working as a General Surgeon in private practice in Newcastle.

In 2018 Dr Williams took up the position of Director of Trauma at the NCCTRC. This position involves clinical care of trauma and general surgery patients at the Royal Darwin Hospital, coordination of the trauma teaching program throughout the NT, as well as driving advocacy and research for quality surgery care and disease prevention at a Territory and National level. Dr Williams is a registered General Surgeon in the Australian Medical Assistance Teams (AUSMAT), and has deployed several times nationally and internationally.

She directs the Surgical Team AUSMAT course annually, and through the NCCTRC is involved in the WHO Global EMT network. Dr Williams also holds an Associate Fellowship in Medical Administration and a Masters in International Public Health. She is a strong campaigner for equal access to quality healthcare throughout Australia and internationally. Dr Williams has a keen interest in education and advocacy. She holds a number of clinical teaching roles and regularly instructs courses on Surgical Education, Basic Surgical Skills, Burn care, Mass Casualty and Disaster throughout Australia and the Pacific Region. She chairs the RACS Bi-national Road Trauma Advisory Sub-Committee and is a member of the RACS Binational Trauma Committee, Women in Surgery and Rural Surgery Sections. She also sits on the Executive Board of the Australasian Trauma Society and the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Surgery of Trauma.

Dr Williams has now returned home to Newcastle into both private and public appointments in General Surgery and Trauma. She provides a general surgical service including treatment of gallbladder disease, hernias, large and small intestine surgical disease and skin cancers, and is accredited with the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) for performing both gastroscopy and colonoscopy. Dr Williams is committed to providing the best possible care for the Hunter community, and achieving the optimal outcome for her patients in a safe and holistic manner. Dr Williams operates at Belmont and John Hunter Hospitals along with Lake Macquarie Private Hospital and Warners Bay Private Hospital.
