Background/Training Mr. Niruben Rajasagaram treats patients presenting with benign and malignant conditions that affect the upper gastrointestinal tract, with a clinical interest in the stomach and oesophagus.
Niruben has studied and worked extensively to perform weight loss & metabolic surgery. He also has an interest in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and advanced interventional endoscopy and endoscopic stents.
Niruben graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland in 2001. He holds a bachelor degree in Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics. He completed his basic surgical training in Dublin, Ireland and obtained his Membership to the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (MRCS) in 2004. He then completed his advanced training in general surgery at St Vincents Hospital Melbourne, receiving the Fellowship to the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2011.
His desire to continue to specialise in the field of upper gastrointestinal & weight loss surgery saw him further expand his knowledge with an additional four years of specialist training (St Vincent’s Hospital, Alfred hospital & Western Hospital Melbourne, as well as Tweed Heads NSW & John Flynn Private QLD ) to include Oesophagogastric, Bariatric (Weight loss) and Advanced biliary surgery.
In this time he also completed the Australian & New Zealand Gastric Oesophageal Association (ANZGOSA) Fellowship program at the Alfred and St Vincents Hospital’s, Melbourne.
He is currently a reviewer for the Obesity Surgery Journal, the official journal for the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic disorders (IFSO).
Niruben will prioritise time to see new patients and ensure that his schedule has room to allow him to see patients who require urgent attention.
