Dr Simon Platt graduated from medical school at the University of Bristol, UK in 1993. He then taught anatomy at the University of Liverpool for a year before commencing his training in all aspects of surgery.
In 1999, Dr Platt embarked on his training as an Orthopaedic Surgeon, and was awarded a fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery (FRCS) in 2004. He became a Fellow of the Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2019.
Having migrated to the Gold Coast in 2016 to oversee a public foot and ankle service at the Gold Coast University Hospital, he currently manages all aspects of foot and ankle surgery including complex trauma.
Now consulting at Pindara Private Hospital, Dr Platt brings over 18 years of specialist experience to the area.
He works with his patients to explore a range of treatment options so that they have an accurate understanding and expectation of their recovery and rehabilitation. He will explore non-surgical treatment options where possible; working closely with other health practitioners such as podiatrists and physiotherapists.
He has managed a range of foot and ankle conditions for a multitude of patients, including professional athletes.
Dr Platt has a keen interest in teaching and training with a post-graduate certificate in medical education. His teaching skills are highly sought-after. He has been invited to teach foot and ankle surgery all over the world. He supervised fellowship training in the UK. Dr Platt is currently an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Griffith University and an Honorary Adjunct Associate Professor at Bond University. He is also the Scientific Secretary of the Australian Foot and Ankle Society and holds memberships at the British Orthopaedic Association, British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and American Foot and Ankle Society.
Dr Platt has a strong research background with over 100 presentations delivered at Scientific meetings worldwide, on foot and ankle surgery along and the wider aspects of orthopaedic surgery. He regularly publishes in peer-reviewed journals on topics of foot and ankle surgery, and orthopaedic surgery. In 2017, Dr Platt published and authored a text book: Pocket Tutor Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr Platt has interests in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery including sports injuries, arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery. He was one of the fist cohorts of surgeons trained in the UK in minimally invasive surgery, when interest first developed over 10 years ago. Outside of surgery, Dr Platt's interests include scuba diving, photography and travel.
