Dr Johan Van Den Bogaerde completed his undergraduate training in South Africa, with postgraduate training in the United Kingdom at Cambridge, St. Mark’s and Hammersmith Hospitals.
He completed further research in Australia with friend and mentor Professor Michael Kamm.
Dr Van Den Bogaerde believes Gastroenterology is an exciting and important field, and has very broad interests including the study of esophageal pathology, motility disturbances, inflammatory bowel disease and functional bowel disease.
He has been performing general, interventional and hepatobiliary procedures at Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital for the past four years.
Dr Van Den Bogaerde is particularly interested in the microbiome, and has recently completed a trial looking at fecal transplantation in patients with ulcerative colitis, which has encouraging results.
He is now providing faecal transplants at both SCUPH and Caloundra Private hospitals particularly for patients who are experiencing recurrent Clostridium Difficile Colitis. He is also very interested in new techniques, particularly interventional endoscopic techniques, and works closely with a strong team of surgical colleagues at Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital including Physicians, Renal Physicians and Cardiologists.
Dr Van Den Bogaerde is delighted to see patients with both challenging and non-challenging clinical problems. Patients undertaking Gastric Balloon as an alternaate non surgical weight loss procedure is performed under sedation by Dr Van Den Bogaerde and are joined by a medically supervised lifestyle and behaviour modification program.
He practices from two clinic sites: Cotton Gastroenterology Group - Cotton Tree and Caloundra Private Hospital Consulting Suites - Caloundra.
