Warringal Private Hospital is please to welcome Dr Matthew Lee to our Hospital. Dr Lee is a Cardiovascular and General Anaesthetist with a clinical focus in anaesthesia for heart disease.
Dr Lee graduated from The University of Melbourne Medical School in 2008. His specialist anaesthesia training was undertaken in Melbourne, Australia at Austin Health, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Royal Children’s Hospital and Mercy Hospital for Women. In 2016, Dr Lee completed a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at St Michael’s Hospital, The University of Toronto, Canada. He was awarded Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 2017.
Dr Lee’s post fellowship qualifications include a Master of Clinical Ultrasound through The University of Melbourne, a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Professions Education through the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute (USA) and Diplomat status in Advanced Perioperative Transoesophageal Echocardiography through the National Board of Echocardiography (USA).
As a Consultant Anaesthetist, Dr Lee served for 6 years as a Staff Anaesthetist at Austin Health where he specialised in anaesthesia for open-heart surgery, major aortic surgery and structural heart disease. In 2019, he was appointed as Head of Airway and Simulation. In 2021, he was appointed as Head of Education.
Dr Lee now practices as a Visiting Medical Officer at Austin Health. In private practice, he holds accreditation at Ramsay, Epworth, Cabrini, Healthscope and St Vincent’s Private network hospitals. His principal interests are in structural heart disease, electrophysiology, orthopaedic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, and general surgery.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Lee provides expertise to healthcare organisations. He is an Examiner for the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, a Course Director in Advanced Life Support for the Australian Resuscitation Council, an Instructor in Early Management of Severe Trauma for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeon, and an Instructor in Effective Management of Anaesthetic Crises for the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
Dr Lee has an academic appointment at the University of Melbourne as an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Critical Care. He has authored several publications and received awards for academic works including the RA Must Scholarship, Donovan-Johnston Memorial Scholarship, Advanced Medical Science Prize, Austin Surgery Research Prize, Victorian Registrar’s Scientific Research Prize and the Dr Alan K Laws Fellowship Award.
